PORTFOLIO
Here we have a portfolio of many of the websites we
have created. There are probably a dozen more sites
that we have created that have come to the end of their
usefulness and are no longer online.
For each website listed, we have a description of the
principal purpose of that website, and note when you can
observe special features on that site. If you click on the
screenshot of the sites listed, you will be taken directly to
that site so you can explore it at your leisure.
The Mississippi Community Symphonic Band
This is the main informational
and contact website for the
community band in the central
Mississippi area. Things to
notice about this site are:
Navigation Buttons - There are
two rows of nav buttons: a
horizontal row across the top
of the content area, and a vertical row down the left side of the
content area. These buttons provide quick access to any area of
the site.
Depth - This is a fairly large site, with a lot of content. When a web
site has a great deal of content, it is very easy for it to get lost and
be therefore unusable, unless the site is very well organized. The
main objective of having information on a site is so people can find
it when they need it.
Heavenly Journey
This is the primary contact website
for the gospel singing group
Heavenly Journey. This site is
interesting because it is CLIENT
maintained in several areas. Note
particularly these features of the
site:
Header Graphic integrates the photo of the group with the site
name.
The SCHEDULE page is an integrated Google
calendar. The client can log on to their Google
calendar from any internet connection and add
new events to their calendar, and those
changes will be instantly reflected on and
integrated into this website.
The PHOTO GALLERY looks like an integral part of this site, but it
is actually hosted on a dedicated photo hosting
website. The client logs onto their account at this
hosting website, and can upload UNLIMITED photos
at will, organize them however they want, add
captions and descriptions to the photos, and allow
permissions for others to order prints or download
photos. I have integrated this photo hosting site directly
into the client's website and applied "co-branding" techniques to
make it look and feel just like part of the client's site. The client
does not have to wait for a web designer to upload photos to the
site. If you've EVER had to wait on a web designer for anything,
then you appreciate what a blessing this is.
The SAMPLE CLIPS provide streaming MP3 music, so people
thinking of booking this group to come sing for them can hear what
they sound like in advance. "Streaming" music means it will begin
to play pretty much instantly, instead of having to wait for the entire
MP3 to download. This is a great boon for people who have had to
wait long periods for other music sites. Notice also how we are
able to provide multiple different titles in a Jukebox format.
The NEWS page is actually a blog, and this also is client-
maintained. This means The client can log on to the site at any
time and add a new news item, and again, does not have to wait
for the web designer to post any changes. The blog software we
use can allow the client to determine whether blog readers will be
able to post comments or not.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of
Mississippi
This is the main informational
and contact website for the
state headquarters of the VFW
for the state of Mississippi.
This is quite an extensive
website - over twenty pages;
most of the pages on this
website contain dated information that needs to be updated quite
frequently. Most website design companies would gleefully update
these pages for the VFW, and charge them for each update. We
provided the means to enable the VFW members to update their
own content, instantly, as easily as updating a word processing
document. Needless to say, they are extremely pleased with this.
The Doty Insurance Agency Website
Chris Doty began with a simple,
four-page website, but then
expanded his site to include a short
video on his home page.
He inquired about pricing of getting
a website for his business from
another local designer, and was
quoted a price without the video
more than four times what he wound up paying David Miller Web
Designs with the video. Needless to say, he’s pleased with his
site..
Affordable Administrative Solutions
This website is an example of
one of our special promotions.
This is a simple, three-page
site, provided for the client in
about one day. It provides the
client a professional web
presence and a way for their
own clients to find them and
contact them to arrange for their administrative services.
Master Plan Gospel Group
This is a site done for a Gospel
music group, and a good example
of how you can start small and
leave room for growth as your
needs and budget grow.
This site starts with a simple home
page, calendar page, and an
"About us" page, and leaves plenty of room for growth later with
such additions as a photo gallery, a blog, a booking inquiry form, a
viewer feedback form, and more.
Phase 1 Barber and Beauty Salon
This site features a “dynamic”
photo gallery - that is, one that
shows a number of smaller
pictures which, when you click
on one, expands to a larger
version of the picture, a client-
updatable “Upcoming Events”
page, and a contact us form
that sends email to the client’s
main email address. For this
site, we have also provided eight email addresses for the workers
at the salon.
Laura Praise Records
This is the principal contact and
information website of Laura Praise
Records. On this site is a description
of available and upcoming music
CDs available from the awesome
praise pianist, Laura Callahan.
This site includes TEXT nav links
(instead of graphic or CSS buttons),
a blog, a newsletter, and a jukebox where you can play samples of
tunes from the Christmas Praise CD.
Silver Clef Music
I write a lot of music, and this
site is one I built as an
experiment in self-publishing.
Since then, it has expanded
significantly, offering writings
from several other people, and
has added an entire section for
the Ensemble Concert Book
series.
This site is interesting because it has so very many different
branches. It includes submissions guidelines, a catalog of music
for sale, a forum, a section on program and narrator notes, and
much more.
