NEED A WEBSITE?
Many people and businesses start off thinking,
"We need a Web Presence!" but they don't
know where to go from there. We can help!
Even if you don't have a clue what to do beyond
the need for a website, we can get you started.
THE THREE ELEMENTS OF GOOD
SITE DESIGN
The first element of a good website design is to specify
the purpose. Exactly why do you want a website? What do
you want it to accomplish? If you don't know what you want
your site to do, how will you know if you've done it? We will
work with you to nail down the purpose for your website, so
you will be able to evaluate whether the site achieves its
purpose.
The second element of good site design is readability. This
encompasses everything from the graphics you use to the
size print on the site, to the layout and organization of the
site. How many web sites have you been to that looked
absolutely beautiful, but you couldn't figure them out? Or
perhaps their print was so small, you just gave up. Here's
an example:
If you can read this print easily, then your eyes are younger and
better than mine. But you only want to use this size print if you
purposefully want to exclude the over-50 crowd from your site.
The third element of good site design is something we call
"Flow." It starts with filtering out the people who aren't
interested, right up front. If you are still reading this, then
you're interested in what I'm saying. If you aren't
interested in having a website designed, then you
probably would have left this page after reading the title
banner. That's filtering.
The next consideration in site flow is drawing the
interested readers deeper into your site, keeping their
attention by telling them things they want to know, and
relating those things to how they might apply to the
reader.
The third consideration in site flow is navigation. There
will be some first-time readers on your site, and they need
to be able to easily follow what they want to know next.
But there will also be returning readers, and they should
be able to go directly to where they want.
